on a day like today...
Tonight was a lot of fun. If there were any inhibitions initially, they melted away with the, ‘Perfect Timing, Azam Noon!!’ and that (as always) dazzling smile. M, you got soul!! (and nice shades, too)
Its 3:35 am… About an hour back, I was at the airport. Correction, we were at the airport. No one to pick, no one to drop, no obvious, apparent, comprehendible reason. Just me and Pablo, trying to breathe life into dead runways and sleeping planes. You ask me why. I ask you why not. Our motives were neither malicious nor frivolous. We had no intention of nicking a fire extinguisher or appropriating one of those ‘Caution: Wet Floor’ signs. No sir. We were there because I just wanted to see something fly… and Pablo seconded the motion.
We lied to get ourselves inside.
‘Arrival… Karachi se.’
‘Shaheen Airline?’ inquired the security guard.
‘Haan Ji, Haan Ji… Shaheen Airline’ we both nodded…
and then there we were just me and Pablo, trying to breathe life into dead runways and sleeping planes.
I hate silences. This house tonight, is too quiet… Maybe it’s just the anti climax… yeah, that’s what it is… the anti climax. I doubt reading Christina Rosenthal the second time will be as interesting. I hope my ankle stops hurting. I hope I score against 2008A. I hope Jills forgets the two ‘stuffed chicken breasts’ I owe him in todays ‘double or nothing’ match. I hope I can untangle this vermicelli. Let’s see, shall we?
ai dil-e-nadaan, ai dil-e-nadaan,
aarazuu kyaa hai, justajuu kyaa hai
ai dil-e-nadaan...
ham bhatakate hain, kyoon bhatakate hain, dasht-o-seharaa mein
aisaa lagtaa hai, mauj pyaasii hai, apne dariyaa mein
kaisii ulajhan hai, kyoon ye ulajhan hai
ek saayaa saa, ru-baruu kyaa hai
ai dil-e-nadaan, ai dil-e-nadaan,aarazuu kyaa hai, justajuu kyaa hai
kyaa qayaamat hai, kyaa musiibat hai,
kah nahiin sakate, kiskaa aramaan hai
zindagii jaise, khoyii-khoyii hai, hairaan hairaan hai
ye zamin chup hai, aasamaan chup hai
phir ye dharkan sii, chaar su kyaa hai
ai dil-e-nadaan, ai dil-e-nadaan,
aisii raahon mein, kitne kaante hain,
Arazuon ne, Arazuon ne,
har kisii dil ko, dard baante hain,
kitane ghaayal hain, kitane bismil hain,
is khudaaii mein, ek tuu kyaa hai
ek tuu kyaa hai, ek tuu kyaa hai
ai dil-e-nadaan, ai dil-e-nadaan…
